The Independent Activities on pages 118 and 278 require you to pick your own project to work on. The slide above is part of a Poetry PowerPoint that I use for my 9th graders. The section of the unit this comes out of is a section on Figurative Language. Looking at it now, I realize it is awful! I obviously threw this together and never went back to make it better. This slide is on simile which should be a review for the students. The only way to go on this one is up!=)

Hi Dawn,
I like your quotes here. I think you did a good job on the space between the definition and quotes which can clarify the text and direct my attention or learners’ attentions. As on page 274, space can enables learners to see the important pieces of message.
I think your background is too strong for black font. It may be difficult for learners to read your message on your PowerPoint. You could change either back ground color or font color. Since your background is warm color, I think it might be better if you can use the cool color on your message instead of black color. If you decide to keep your font color, I think cool color for your background would be nicer or vice versa. However, on page 267, it said that darker background color can be effectively used in a small space.
Moreover, the font of the definition should be changed to Serif or Sans Serif for the readability of the message (p. 225). Yet, I think on your quotes, it might be fine to have this type of typeface. Since when I read these quotes, I feel that I read a history of something. And I hope you might mean that by using this typeface.
This is just a thought. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let me know. My poor English might confuse you somehow.
Cheers, Chatchada
Sorry for the previous comment. On the second paragraph which I referred to page 267, I meant that this slide was not small space. I would rather think it's big if comparing to the text or message you had here.
Therefore, darker background might not be properly used on your slide.
Chatchada.
