For those of you who were absent or did not earn enough points for the Romeo and Juliet discussions last week and Monday's seminar, here is a chance for you to earn points.

Respond to and prove the following statements: 2 points each, 3 points with a quote

1. Sometimes it takes a disaster to make people change their ways.
2. Throughout Romeo and Juliet there is a search for and changing of identities. Explain how this theme relates to the play.
3. Misfortune in life is a matter of fate.
4. People's lives are determined by fate.
5. Things are not as they seem.

Using one of these words create a statement of theme for the play and provide support for that theme.
6. Hate
7. Love
8. Infatuation
9. Selfishness

Write the number of the response on your blog post.

The total for an A+ was responding up to 8 times over the last week.

1. Sometimes it takes a disaster to make people change their ways.

The fued between the Capulet family and the Montegue family seems like it will never end. Even after the deaths of Tybalt and Mercutio the two families are butting heads. Romeo and Juliet getting married and dying without the two families noticing until it was to late is a disaster that will probably stop the fighting. It takes something bigger to take it down and the TRAGEDY OF ROMEO AND JULIET is just what this is.

7. Love

Love created the bond that drove Romeo and Juliet together even though their love was forbidden by their last names. Their "love" also is what killed them. Romeo's "love" is what caused Romeo to commit suicide when he found Juliet "dead". The same also goes for Juliet when she found Romeo actualy dead. Love brought Romeo and Juliet to each other which was what they wanted but then it turned into a cannon ball strapped to their leg while they were trying to swim through the sea of fate. (like in Pirates of the Carribean) (boot-strap bill. Bill Turner) :)

Through out the play there is dramatic irony. Events occur that only some characters know about which contradicts what other characters beleive is going on. For example, Juliet marries Romeo and like a day later Juliet's mother starts planning Juliet's marriage to Paris.

6. Hate

Hate is the main reason the Romeo and Juliet are dead. Their families hated each other. They didn't understand the whole hate thing and they died trying to escape from their parents because they have a forbidden romance. Teens are often intrigued by rebelling against their parents and that is why they are dead.

People's lives are determined by fate. If Romeo didn't go the the party that one night, he would still be alive. Romeo met Juliet that night and they fell in love. Romeo killed Tybalt because of his friend and was banished and Juliet got her hands on poison. Their lives would have turned out differently due to fate.

Love

Romeo and Juliet claim that their love is very strong and it was love at first site when they met at the party. In the beginning of the story I did not think that there claim of having love at first site was true but as the story carried on my thoughts changed. Romeo and Juliet showed that they loved each other very much and constantly fought to keep their relationship together. They even ended up dying for each other. I think that their thoughts of having 'love at first site' was shown a lot more as the story progressed.

The deaths of Romeo and Juliet were very drastic. They happened so quick that it was hard to understand why. If they really loved each other that much then they sure showed it. By Romeo and Juliet dying I think that the two families that hold a grudge against each other will finally come together again. Maybe the deaths of the families children will show them what sort of disasters can happen when two families hold the smallest grudge.

Hate

I believe that hate is what triggered and drove this whole play. From the second the story started until the story ended, the Capulets and the Montegues held a grudge towards each other. This grudge is what keep Romeo and Juliet apart and also what drove them to their deaths. This grudge is what killed Tybalt and Mercutio. If only there was never trouble between the two families. Maybe then Romeo and juliet could have had a peaceful ending together.

The fued between the Capulets and the Montegues probably never would of ended if it weren't for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. The families would never let the two lovers see each other. Even when the two were married the two families were sill fighting. After the deaths of Romeo and Juliet the families stopped fighting. Its sad that it took and event this big two stop the two fueding families in the Tragedy of Romeo And Juliet.

4. Peoples lives are determined by fate.

Romeo and Juliet, the two lovers met each other by fate. They met at a party at Capulets house, and Juliet wasn't expecting to meet any one at the party and Romeo wasn't planning on going, but they met there by fate. When the two lovers died they died in the same place over the same reason. There was a reason why the letter didn't get diliverd and the plan failed causing the two lovers to meet and die together by fate. Fate really decided the lives of Romeo and Juliet in the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet.
